Cops looking for MyVi driver caught on video blocking ambulance

Police are looking for the driver of a Perodua MyVi who was caught on camera obstructing an ambulance in the emergency lane of the Federal Highway.

The Star quoted Selangor police chief Abdul Samah Mat as saying that he was aware that a video of the incident had gone viral on social media.

"We urge the driver to come forward immediately to help with investigations.

"I also want to advise the public not to take action into their own hands," he told reporters during a press conference at the Selangor police headquarters in Shah Alam yesterday.

The two-minute-and-five-second video uploaded on Facebook appeared to be from the ambulance's dashboard camera footage, and the incident allegedly took place along the Federal Highway near Shah Alam.

The video begins with the words: "Respect?!"

"Respect the rights of emergency lane usage (Hormati hak pengunaan lorong kecemasan)."

Sirens could be heard in the background as the ambulance was seen travelling on the emergency lane.

In the video, while some road users were seen giving way to the ambulance, the emergency vehicle was eventually obstructed by a black MyVi.

The car kept its left indicator on and refused to make way for the ambulance, even as other vehicles on the emergency lane rushed out of the way.

Towards the end of the video, the Perodua was seen speeding off after it nearly collided with the ambulance.

Those with information on the case should contact the police hotline at 03-2052 9999 or visit the nearest police station. - Malaysiakini
